Winter Skincare Saviours

How long until winter is over? I’m all for embracing winter clothing and snuggling up with a hot chocolate at the end of the day, but my wardrobe is getting progressively darker (think American Horror Story: Coven) and all this alternating between the cold outside and indoor heating is making my skin take a turn for the worst. In an effort to combat dullness, dehydrated patches and dryness on the lips especially (yep, not even the lips are safe), I’ve thankfully found a few products to remedy my winter skin woes.

To combat dehydration: When I say my skin gets dehydrated, I don’t just mean dry. I’m talking about patches of itchy, flaky and tight skin on my face that feel rough and almost scaly at times (I swear I’m not turning into a fish, it’s just dehydrated skin…I hope). Seeing as it’s not my whole face that gets this way, what I do before bed is slather Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel onto the dehydrated patches. This stuff is intensely moisturising and has worked wonders for me; by the time I wake up my skin feels much less tight and the flakes are on their way out the door.

To improve dullness: I’ve never had a true ‘Holy Grail’ product until I tried the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. Though it’s formulated with four acids which can sound a bit intense, after leaving this mask on for 10 minutes then rinsing with warm water, I notice immediate improvements to the texture and brightness of my skin. Used once a week, this mask leaves my skin feeling super soft and has actually made a noticeable improvement in fading my post-acne scars and lightening pigmentation. Heads up, this stuff smells strongly of citrus and orange peel which I find lovely, but others may not!

For dryness (on the lips): I love wearing lipsticks, but nothing I do can make lipsticks look good if I have dry lips. This is where Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm comes into play; it’s a thick, rose-scented moisturising balm that uses shea butter to hydrate the lips. I find using this once a day prevents my lips from chapping or cracking and bleeding (the worst!) due to the nippy winter air. It does claim to be a ‘plumping’ balm which didn’t appeal to me, but honestly I’ve never noticed any tingling while using the product and it hasn’t plumped my lips in the slightest; just moisturised intensely which I love.

The combination of all these products have really been helping my skin and I swear if this REN mask continues to improve my post-acne scarring I might need to propose to it. Needless to say, when I find skincare products I love, I stick with them.

I love that Moisturising Gel! I might switch it back soon! It's so sad that the Dior Creme de Rose has been discontinued around SEA and the Europe! I hope they still have it somewhere so that I can try it out!

    • It is really popular! Just don't make the mistake I did and buy the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion instead of the gel, for me the lotion didn't work at all but the gel is great.

  6. That clinique moisturiser is amazing! Great post!

  8. I have heard such good things about the REN products but also heard that they're quite expensive, i'm looking for something that will completely combat my break-outs on my chin!!!!! Getting SO sick of them! 🙁 might give this a try! Love your blog and such a lovely post 🙂 xx

    • Ren products aren't the most wallet friendly, but personally I don't mind paying a bit more if the product delivers results! Completely feel your pain, my chin has a tendency to break out awfully! For breakouts I'd go for the Clinique Anti-blemish mask over this one, this REN mask is better for clearing up acne scarring. I've got an older blog post up on the clinique mask if you want more info 🙂

I have had trouble finding that lip balm too, People who can still get it should stock up. What a shame its so hard to get. Its really annoying when they discontinue good products that work. I'm talking to you dior company reps if you are out there reading.

  10. Can you believe I still haven't tried Ren Skincare?? Ah – I must get out there and find it, it's not the most available brand in the UK sadly but after seeing so many reviews I want it! 🙂

    Hope you're well! 🙂
