The Face Behind ‘The Sunday Mode’

If you’ve read any of my style posts or if you follow @thesundaymode on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that my face isn’t shown in any of the photos. Now don’t get too excited, I’m not a headless horseman or anything like that, I promise there’s a melon sitting on top of this neck.

When I started this blog I wanted to remain completely anonymous and you can probably guess some of the reasons why (See: The internet can be a creepy place, stranger danger etc). As I’ve been interacting with the blogging community over the past few months, I’ve felt something has been holding me back from making connections and interacting with people; my anonymity.

Since I’ve been reading all of your wonderful blogs, I’ve been inspired to take the plunge and join you all, starting with revealing the actual person behind this blog. The content of The Sunday Mode isn’t changing, except for the fact that you might see my face now and again. I just wanted you all to get to know me a little better and be able to put a face to my blog.

I feel like this post is turning out to be a lot more dramatic than I intended? Long story short, in an effort to propel this blog and further connect with the blogosphere…..

Ta da! Wow that’s a big picture of my face…hopefully my mug hasn’t scared any of you off.
For the sake of consistency and on social media I’ll still be going by ‘The Sunday Mode,’ but my real name is Julia.

I’ve been reading different blogs and watching Youtubers for about 6 years now. For a long time I wanted to start my own blog, but my annoying perfectionist personality stopped me. After recently graduating I decided to take the plunge and so far it’s been nothing but enjoyable (aside from spending hours trying to figure out HTML, argh!).

Aside from interacting with some amazing bloggers, one of the most exciting things about blogging so far is that it’s opened up a new window for me; I’ve become a content creator for The Haute Mess. THM website is all about embracing your inner hot mess and the fact that no one is perfect, we’re all just trying to figure things out (something I strongly believe- trust me, I am a serious hot mess). Currently I’m writing original content for the site, though some of my existing posts from The Sunday Mode will also be featured there. If you’re interested in reading more of my content and want to see me in action on the site, click here.

I’ll of course be blogging through The Sunday Mode as per usual, nothing there will change. This is just a chance for me to get my blog out there a bit more and become a part of an extended online community. Basically, this is really exciting for me so I wanted to share it with you all!

Hopefully after reading this you feel like you now know the face behind this blog a little better. I’ve also just started up a twitter (gulp!) so if you fancy following me there, my twitter is: @TheSundayMode.

If you want to know more about me or have any questions, feel free to ask in a comment below!

  6. That happened to me too, I'had been watching youtube videos, and reading blogs for so long that last year after finishing high school, I decided to start my own blog, it has been hard at first since I'm really shy and introvert, but I'm happy I did start it because it is such an amazing experience!

It can be scary showing yourself! I never had problems with this on my blog, but I've had many years of being active on the internet and the first time I showed myself, I was terrified!

    • That makes me feel a lot better, for a while I thought I must be one of the only people out there who is nervous to show their face! Feeling a lot more comfortable as time goes on though, thankfully.

It's lovely to meet you and your face haha 🙂 I've followed you back over on Twitter by the way, if you have any questions with regard to figuring out that platform, just shoot me an email and I'll help in any way I can!

You're gorgeous! So glad you decided to do this. I was the same way with my blog, and then changed. It takes awhile to acclimate to revealing oneself in blogging.

    • Thanks Kim! It's nice to hear that other people felt the same way as me, but I think going forward from here I'll feel more comfortable making this blog include a little more 'me' 🙂

  29. Awww this is so sweet – thank you for sharing! It's always nice to see the blogger behind the blog and find out about them, it just makes you feel so much more connected and like you're friends which is a really sweet thing!

Just read your comment about Nutella too – I didn't know that you pronounced it differently as I say it the same way as you! It will always be Nut-ella to me! 🙂

  31. I always think about showing my face in blog posts but I'm not there yet in terms of photo taking and all that and I guess it takes time to build up your confidence, which is strange because I blog and it's accessible to the whole world (well not quite yet but you know what I mean) BTW, I nominated you for a Liebster Award. The link to this is below. No worries if you don't take part, entirely your choice xx

    • Thanks so much for the nomination! Really appreciate it 🙂

I totally understand where you're coming from, that's exactly why I was so nervous to show my face on my blog! To be honest I don't know how many posts from here on out will include my face, I'll just have to see how I feel with each post. As you said, it'll just take us time to build up confidence 🙂

    • That's so nice of you to say, thanks! I'm the same, I'm pretty much the opposite of of 'selfie' person, I feel like in so many photos my face just goes horribly wrong, haha

    You look good!

  37. Lexy says:

So I checked out your blog, because I am also a content creator the Haute mess site too! I'm a new blogger and was always scared of either saying my name or showing pictures of myself, but I figured it's the only way to really put myself out there and be connected to readers. I love your articles on the haute mess and I'm totally like you with trying to create content for that site, but stay consistent with my site as well. Glad you are part of the team 🙂

Oh and btw feel free to check out mine at goodgirldiaries.net 🙂

    • Hi Lexy, thanks so much for reaching out- so happy to hear you're liking my Haute Mess articles! I've been meaning to check out more of the contributors on THM so it's really nice to hear from you. I think it can be difficult to juggle both things at a time but luckily THM team are pretty flexible which makes things a lot easier. Off to check out your site now x

Hope you don't mind me being late to this post party…

Just want to say I think you're gorgeous! I totally understand the whole "I don't want to show my face" thing + how long it has taken you to start your blog. I've literally just started mine a week and a half ago & I've had it in mind to start one for 18 months, but fear (and perfectionist tendencies) held me back. I really had to give myself a good talking to in order to begin & even then I struggled to wrap my brain around some technical stuff before publishing my first post.

RE: Not showing your face – it's going to take me a while before I do it, if ever. It's not because I'm hideous – it's mostly for the same reasons you outlined in your post + I'm just not comfortable with the idea yet. I even thought about going by a different name for the blog, but in the end I've gone with my nickname & I'm ok with that.

    • It's never too late for a lovely comment like this one.

Even though it was pretty nerve wracking for me to show my face I'm glad I did. I think with things like this you just have to see how you go with time, when I started I thought I would never ever show my face, obviously I was wrong!

Hope everything goes well with your blog, props to you for taking the plunge and starting one! 🙂
