You know what I love the most about New Year’s Eve? It’s the perfect excuse to break free from your usual ‘look’ and try something different, something more adventurous.
Wearing a dress and heels may not seem adventurous to some but for me it’s definitely not the usual, far from it actually. I’ve been itching to do more of a dressy outfit post for weeks now but my usual jeans and a shirt combo just wasn’t cutting it, so when Boohoo kindly gifted me a dress of my choosing and challenged me to put together the perfect New Year’s Eve look as part of their #WeAreFamily campaign, it felt like the perfect match.
Boohoo’s campaign is all about celebrating family and what exactly it is that makes us feel especially sparkly and cheerful during the festive season. Spending time with my family and seeing other people happy makes me feel cheerful but (honesty time) a killer outfit and a bold lip never fails to make me feel all kinds of good; so naturally for this New Year’s Eve look that’s exactly what I’ve gone for.
This striped monochrome dress is pretty close to my idea of heaven and I think it would work perfectly for New Year’s Eve. It borders on being an oversized shirt which ups the comfort factor by tenfold (woo!) and the fabric is lightweight enough that I’ll be able to wear this even during the heat of the Australian summer. Throw on a pair of tights and a nice coat and I can whip this baby out in autumn and winter as well, so it’s a double win.
The fact that it’s monochromatic makes me feel like it’s not so much of a departure from what I’d usually wear day to day, but it’s crazy how throwing on a pair of heels changes the dynamic completely.
To dress everything up I went for MAC’s Lady Danger lipstick which is a vivid orangey-red shade. I think the bold lip paired with wavy hair all pulled to one side gives this look kind of a 20s feel? Just me?
I ended up feeling really comfortable wearing this outfit and I found myself wanting to rock red lips much more often, so bring on New Year’s Eve!
Hopefully this post has inspired a few of you to try and venture out of your style comfort zones; embrace this time of the year and just try something new because…why the hell not? If I can feel confident wearing a dress, you can do pretty much anything.
What are you planning to wear on New Year’s Eve?
