Shop My Stash: Beauty

After writing my Cult Beauty Products Worth The Hype post I came to a scary realisation; I’ve dropped a bomb pretty penny on beauty bits this year and despite the fact that my wish list seems to keep growing, I should probably start using up what I have before buying anything else.

After watching this ‘Shop my Stash’ video by Lily Pebbles I was inspired to go through my beauty cupboard to uncover hidden gems and rediscover old favourites. Hopefully this will inspire a few of you to do the same, then all of our wallets can breathe a sigh of relief.

First up is my Too Faced ‘Spice Spice Baby’ La Creme Lip Cream which I call my cannoli lipstick because to me it smells exactly like an Italian cannoli, is that weird? Aside from the delicious scent, this has been my go-to lipstick lately. A medium pink with a subtle hint of brown undertones, this is a brilliant MLBB (my lips but better) shade which makes it so easy to wear. No lip liner or balm needed, the super creamy formula means I can apply this straight from the bullet and I’m good to go. Honestly I think the formula of these Too Faced lipsticks puts the MAC lipstick formulas to shame, they’re just so creamy and easy to work with.

MAC’s ‘Painterly’ Paint Pot has become a new staple in my eye makeup arsenal; the shade is a light beige which is fairly similar to my natural skin tone so I’ve been using this on the lids as a nice neutral base before applying shadow. I notice when I use this that my eyeshadows ‘pop’ a little more and just generally seem more visible, which I love. Pre-warning though, these paint pots dry up rather quickly so I don’t know how much longer I can use this before it starts to feel like I’m applying cement to my eyelids…

How did I manage to neglect my trusty Nars ‘Laguna’ Bronzer? Obviously this is meant to be used as a bronzer but for me the shade is perfect for some light contouring. A few sweeps under the cheekbones with a tapered brush and my face is looking much more defined and chiseled (the troubles of an oval shaped head). In the pan Laguna can look glittery and like it’ll be shimmer city on your face, but because I use such a light hand I never get any glitter transfer which is great.

I’ve also rediscovered my Korres Lip Butters for days when I’m going for the au naturale look, AKA when I don’t want dry lips but I do want a hint of colour. I use the stick version of this balm which is harder to track down than the pots but far more convenient in my opinion. The Pink shade (it’s literally just called ‘Pink’) with SPF is great for a slight wash of rose on the lips and I’ve been loving the clear ‘Mandarin’ shade with no SPF for night time. Why they named their clear shade Mandarin? I’ll never know. I’m not a fan of sticky lip balms and I can safely say these feel great on the lips.

If you’ve recently shopped your own stash, what gems have you found?

Mmmm cannoli! I hear you though, I really need to stop buying – currently so overwhelmed with stuff, I've got things I've purchased in the past few weeks I haven't even opened yet… sounds ridiculous, I know! I really need to try Too Faced lipsticks 🙂 xx

  10. I'm so bad with some of my products. I absolutely love them and then get so into my recent purchases I totally forget about them. Like my Naked 3 palette, was totally obsessed with it this spring and summer and now I've purchased a few others it's kind of lacking the love! Post reminded me to make sure I keep giving those products some love! Also what a lovely makeup bag! It's so cute! xx

  11. I've always wanted to try out Laguna but I'm told there's a lot of shimmer which can be dangerous for someone with oily skin 🙁 Love your makeup bag though, where is it from??

  12. NEED to get Mac's Painterly Paint Pot!

  13. Gabrielle says:

It can be quite a relief when you become attached to a product and don't need to search for an alternative – I know the feeling! haha 🙂 The Korres Lip Butter sounds interesting, I have only ever heard good things about that brand.

I love the korres lip butter! It's so moisturising and adds a little of colour. Perfect for every day wear…

  19. I feel the same way about using what I already have… I have so many different versions of things that in the new year, I'm going to focus on using the products I have rather than purchasing new items – especially when it comes to beauty!!

Laguna bronzer and Korres lipbalms are some of my favourites too.

  20. Admittedly, my beauty/make-up collection is so small that I am aware of pretty much everything I've got. 🙂 New discovering are the body oils and hair spray, which I talked about on the blog. Thank you for mentioning the lip butters – I've been thinking of getting one, but completely forgot, so it was a reminder. 🙂

Lovely picks hun! I don't own any of M.A.C's Paint Pots, but all I hear is rave reviews about them. I really want one now, they sound like multi purpose too. When they can be used as a primer or a colour on the eye. – My Christmas Gift Guide – For Her

  22. Oh! I really need to try Mac Painterly paint pot! I always go back to the Nars Laguna bronzer as well!

  26. Recently all I've been doing is buying and forgetting my beloved products, I guess I should go through my stash and see what I've been missing.
ps. your makeup bag is so lovely 🙂

  27. I love re-discovering old products, it's the best feeling ever. I have so much makeup, it's impossible for me to use everything on a regular basis so I tend to do some "re-discovering" quite often 🙂

Hahaha, I think it's great you're finding new old products! I should do it, my wallet would be very happy with me if I did…But after seeing MAC's Painterly pot…well…We'll just see haha

  29. I've totally been shopping my stash as well. I'm trying to avoid buying any new products until I finish a few more. I still have to try Laguna! :]

  30. I love the makeup bag. Very cute. I have managed to hoard up so many makeup products, its insane. I now have a 5:1 rule for myself. I am allowed to buy a new product only after I use up 5 other products. They can be anything, skincare, makeup, fragrance, but they need to be 5 for me to get 1 new product!

I write Mademoiselle Meets Maquillage and Macaroons and I would love for you to give it a read. Maybe we can follow each other on Bloglovin?

    Deepti x

    • Ah I don't know if I'd be able to do a 5:1 system because I too easily get wooed by products, but it probably is something I should do too!

Happy to check out your blog Deepti 🙂

You have inspired me to shop my own stash.
Looking through my own goods I could see I had much more blushes than I thought. I am going to try to use them before purchasing a new one. (Lets see how long that lasts) I also apparently am a brush hoarder. Whoops! maybe I didn't need the last 3 unopened brushes I bought.
I am also going to revisit my Nars Laguna bronzer that was hiding at the back of my drawer.

  42. Shopping my own stash is something that I am trying to do more of as I have also spent quite a bit on products this year. I was happily surprised when I came across a few blushes that I had totally forgotten about 🙂 The Too Faced La Creme lippies are one of my favourite lipsticks, they apply so smoothly and easily and smell delish.

    Enjoy your day!

  44. This is a problem of mine as well… I see all these products that look so gorgeous (ahem lipstick) and then I forget to use the products I already have. Come to think of it, this is also a huge problem of mine with purses and wallets- I see so many of them that I like, and then have to remind myself, "Savannah, stop! You have waayy too many wallets already!" I was walking through Nordstrom yesterday and saw this adorable purse, but then thought "You just bought a purse! Stop!" Dang it, Nordstrom!

    Savannah xx

    • This is so funny because almost the exact same thing happened to me today, except for me it's bags. I bought a new black bag two days ago and then today I was in store and I saw another really nice black bag and went to buy it. I got up to the cash register and realised uh..maybe I don't need another black bag two days after just buying one? haha

I love this post and love the photo too. I have tried to enjoy laguna but not sure why I don't love it and everyone else does! Each to their own I guess. The Korres lip butter sounds really good. I'm all for such products that leave tints of colour on the lips for on the go. x

  54. Hi!
I'm from Melbourne as well (I read your 'about' section, I'm not a stalker!) and I was so excited when I found out you were because basically all the bloggers I've met are from England or America. Anyway, I love your blog and a friend and I have just stated a blog, it isn't nearly as good as this blog but if you would take the time to check it out and even follow it, that would mean so much to us. And that applies to anyone reading this comment as well!
    Thanks Frankie xxx

  61. Shopping your stash is definitely the way to go sometimes – you've just reminded me that I haven't used a MAC Paint Pot in ages so I need to break out one of those. The products I've recently rediscovered and remembered I love are the Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer.

  62. I have so many products that I neglect and the reason is very simple. they're all in a very big box and I tend to pick what's on top. Consequently, the products that are not at the surface don't see the sunlight very often, unless I empty the whole thing on my bed when I'm looking for something in particuliar.
