My Favourite Ways To Treat Myself

Ever since I watched the ‘Treat Yo Self’ episode of Parks and Recreation I realised that I need more ‘Treat yourself’ days in my life, we probably all do. Nowadays it’s become common and in some circles even encouraged to work like a dog but then for some reason when you rest or treat yourself that’s considered ‘indulging?’ Can’t say I’m on board with that logic.

I talked about taking breaks in my ‘Workaholics Guide To Getting Some R&R’ post but this goes beyond getting the bare minimum, I think we all deserve to treat ourselves more often and I don’t think there should be an ounce of guilt or judgement involved in doing that. I almost want to start some kind of a ‘treat yourself’ movement where everyone regularly does the things that they love…until then, to inspire you here are my favourite ways to treat myself.


It’s not often that I give myself pamper time but I do have a special little beauty routine and whenever I do it I always feel like I’ve got my life together I’m really treating my skin-

Moisturise everywhere. Why do I feel like the Queen of Sheba when I moisturise? For most people moisturising is part of their daily routine but I tend to forget about it (no idea why!) so whenever I do actually pick up a moisturiser I slather it everywhere and end up feeling like a goddess. Currently I’m loving using the **Elizabeth Arden Moisturising Body Treatment because it’s super thick, nourishing and it smells like a lemon tart. It’s fast absorbing as well which is great for me because let’s just say patience isn’t one of my virtues…

Whip out the brightening trio. I start with the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel which gives my skin a nice glow (longer review here) and then I follow that up with the *Elemis White Brightening Even Tone Lotion. The lotion has a gentle milky formula and it seems to slowly be fading my post-acne scars but it does come with a hefty price tag which is why I consider using it a treat. I finish up with the *Antipodes Skin-Brightening Serum, it’s an ugly little serum (it’s dark purple with a goopy consistency…) but it transfers clear onto the skin and when used in combination with the other two products it seems to be capping off my brightening, post acne scar-fading skincare routine perfectly.

Take a break.

When I really let myself do what I want it’s usually just to sit down and watch a movie or something on Netflix. Sometimes I just need to plant myself on the couch with absolutely nothing on the agenda, you know? I think I must be the easiest person in the world to please…
Devour something delicious. 
Ask anyone that knows me well and they’ll tell you that I’m one cookie short of turning into a cookie myself, so naturally one of my favourite ways to treat myself is to eat.some.cookies. If I’m being painfully honest, not much pleases me more than a good cookie does. (See, told you I was easy to please.)
Wear luxury products. 
I don’t own a lot of luxury makeup and by no means are they a necessity, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get excited every time I whip out my Burberry lipstick and see the lush packaging with the embossed Burberry design on it. It definitely feels like a treat and also….I feel fancy. My current favourites are the more wearable, rosy pink lipsticks like Tom Ford’s ‘Indian Rose’ or **Burberry’s ‘English Rose’. I’m getting so much use out of both that I feel like cost per wear justifies the price tag.

A wise man once said, “Love? Love fades away. But things? Things last forever.” Just kidding, but honestly whether you treat yourself by buying material things or by marathoning Star Wars, I think we all need to make more space in our lives for the things we love- minus the guilt.

    I definitely agree about the moisturising thing! I tend to do it a lot in winter but then it just fades away.

  5. Moisturizing my body (especially after a shower) makes me feel like a Queen. Is that weird?! Hahaha. I do love sitting around on the couch and watching Netflix with nothing to do! Nothing better than that. x

    I like the sound of the lemon tart smelling Elizabeth Arden Lotion! I find anything citrus smelling is always uplifting to me. I've heard good things about that moisturiser too, so good to know you think it's worth the splurge. I must admit I have tried to keep "natural" by using pure coconut oil as my moisturiser or argan oil but I always find I can't touch anything or sit on anything for a long time after! So I think I prefer something like this that actually absorbs well cos otherwise I just skip the moisturiser.
    I must admit I haven't really tried any brightening products but I do have the Oskia on order and have been waiting for it's delivery! Might take a look at those other whitening products one at a time after trying the Oskia first.
    Now I'm taking your advise- off to munch on something yummy, put my feet up and watch some Netflix 🙂

    • That literally sounds like my idea of heaven Phoebe, hopefully you enjoyed relaxing and watching Netflix! I actually did that today as well and loved every minute of it.

      I find coconut oil and things like that take a really long time to absorb as well, otherwise I'd love to use something natural like that regularly but it just makes me so oily!

    • I totally get what you mean. It makes me feel vein to even say it but luxury makeup does make me feel really good when I use it (I mean, provided the products themselves aren't crap!).

    Treating yourself is SO important. For me it's a huge part of being happy. I work so hard every day that I think I deserve to give myself a treat from time to time. My favorite ways are either a shopping spree or eating something with a lot of chocolate 😉

    Idk why but that cookie picture is SO pleasing! Also because cookies are delish. It's always important for "me" time – which for me usually means lighting a good candle, pouring a bath, and settling in with wine, a good book, and a face mask.

  19. Pampering myself definitely one of the ways of treating myself, I love to dive in the moisturiser bath and just soak in then taking a nice sleep 🙂 Also can't say no to freshly baked cookies and a glass of coffee 🙂

    • haha yes! So glad someone else feels the same way. Definitely give the Oskia cleanser a go, I just finished my bottle of it and I'm hating using other cleansers while I wait for my new bottle to arrive 🙁

  22. I would probably say moisturizing, pampering myself. I also love to take a hot shower/bath and then get into fresh pjs and go to sleep early, especially if the day was pretty long and stressful!
    But my old time favourite is go and get a hair cut or a nice blowdry, always hits the spot!

    I would definitely get on board with the Treat Yourself movement! Sometimes it feels like we need to apologise or justify every time we take five minutes for ourselves which just seems crazy. I love a good pamper night or a shopping spree – those always make me feel better! x

    i love having a pamper session after a long week or when i'm feeling low. i miss moisturizer too, sometimes i'm just too lazy to use it, so when i do it makes me feel pretty awesome so you're alone there haha! my pamper sessions almost always involve good food, an episode of Friends and face masks x

    Haha, the quote about "things lasting forever" made me laugh 😀 Even though it's not THINGS that usually make me happy I do think it helps to use or try some lovely products to help yourself relax and unwind. Yesterday I took the longest walk in the park and just chilled staring at the riverfront, leaves starting to fall down… and wow, that was like a flippin' spa treatment for the soul 🙂 Our life tempo is insane.     I agree, we all need to treat ourselves a little more! I think that this should be a regular thing and you’re right, there shouldn’t be guilt involved. It’s just how society makes things seem I guess – but who cares about society anyway lol. Yes moisturising is something that I forget about too. I feel like I’ve been to a spa after I moisturise, as it’s such a rare occurrence for me haha. The Elemis White Brightening Even Tone Lotion sounds amazing. I really want to try it now, as I have a few skin marks that I want to fade. I think that my favourite ways to take a break is to eat good food, snuggled on my sofa.     • Yeah it's for sure a societal thing but it really bothers me that treating yourself isn't encouraged more, it's kind of frowned upon almost because it's like you're wasting time that you could be 'hustling'- so silly! Love the combo of good food and snuggling on the couch as well, there's nothing better!

I am the same when it comes to moisurising I love when I actually do it but always seem to put it off or forget to do it haha and the Luxury product thing that is me all over I feel a bit special if I can use something a bit more luxe whether it be a makeup product or a handbag.

  69. Most of the time I get irritated by the ingrown hairs. So, the best way to treat my self is to get rid off these ingrown hairs. I usually prefer for dermology hair removal cream to get rid off these ingrown hairs.
